Gays have been subjected to severe abuse over the years and even God himself hates the gays – which is harsh because he made them. Here in Ireland, it was illegal to be gay up until the 1990’s after Senator David Norris took a case to the Supreme Court, who voted against making gays legal.
Norris then took the case to the European Court of Human Rights, who overturned the decision by the Irish Courts and finally, gays were legal in Ireland.
Gays were persecuted ousted and victims of hate crimes because of their different, beliefs, behaviours and ways of life.
But, in a worrying turn of events, some people are saying that gays are becoming the intolerant, ignorant and tunnel visioned campaigners that they struggled against for years. They’re forcing their message through media channels and refusing to accept the opinion of others with different beliefs and value systems.
A spokesperson for the Homophobes Association of Ireland (HAI) said “ Gays in Ireland are not tolerating our views, opinions or beliefs. We are being marginalised, victimised and abused for our ways of life, which is ironic because gays fought for equal rights for everyone for years and are now refusing to treat us equally.”
The HAI went on to further comment that Homophobes beliefs and values should be as respected as much as the next persons and by not doing so, you’re engaging in blatant discrimination and not being a responsible member of this “democracy”.
So, after years of campaigning to be treated equally and have their views and beliefs and ways of life heard, has the Gay Rights Movement in Ireland stepped into the realm of the intolerant, the racist and the discriminatory by not letting Homophobes continue to live unabused?
