After weeks of violence and bubbling tensions between Unionists and Republicans, an easy peace has unfurled itself over Belfast today after a solution to the Flag fruore has been implemented by Belfast City Councillors.
With the absence of the Union Jack flying over Belfast City hall on certain days of the week, the City Centre in Belfast has seen protest after violent protest. That is until today after City Councillors raised a French Tricolour over City Hall in a bid to keep both sides of fight happy.
Solution
“The French Tricolour is tricolour enough to keep the Catholics happy, with its similarity to the Irish flag. Those wonderful royal blue and deep sexy red colours, parted by a virginal white, will keep the Unionist sedated too.” said the man who came up with the initiative, Mr Frank Geddis a local Butcher who has an interest in conflict resolution. Mr. Geddis recently completed a night-course in mediation and is using the idea for his end of course project.
While this idea works now, it did not always carry such benefits, in 1798 the United Irishmen tried a similar idea involving the French Tricolour but this resulted in many men on both sides of Christianity being “piked” to death. As it is now almost 2013 we can safely predict that this probably wont happen again, as we have computers and the internet to keep sectarianism to online forums only.
