Today was the day Budget 2013 was announced to the country, detailing the variety of cuts in spending and increases in tax the government has planned for next year.
The nation was gripped, listening, watching and logging on to hear about what they would personally have to endure for next year.
During the speeches however, many opposition TDs were disgruntled at what they were hearing and began to voice their concerns. As the session went on further, the disruption became more severe and the Ceann Comhairle had to intervene to keep the televised announcements on track.
The Ceann Comhairle had an aggressive outburst at one stage, shouting down certain TD’s for not raising their hands before they wanted to talk and branded some “comedians” that the public would rather not here.
Several TD’s had to stay back after class and its been reported that many will in fact miss PE this week, due to their poor behaviour – especially when the cameras were on. Parents of the TDs have been sent home letters, asking for them to address this issue with their children, as proper members of the Dail are supposed to conform and follow authoritarian direction.
