Following on from the government’s announcement that the Revenue will be valuing each property in the country to determine liable property tax, it has also been announced that the government will be valuing each individual Irish person, in a bid to reduce public spending and meet the TROIKA agreements.
The government over the course of the next few months, will be posting out what it feels the indicative value of each working Irish person is – beginning with public sector workers. The assessment will show how much they are worth in the eyes of the government and how much they can expect to be paid over the course of their working lives.
(Children, the elderly and the disabled, all of whom are not eligible to work, will not be valued by the government.)
The move will help cap spending on wages in the public sector – one of the biggest expenses for the government. People will still be able to make self assessments of how much they personally feel they are worth, but any serious deviation from the governments valuation will result in inspections and serious sanctions and deductions from their wages, to ensure people fall into line with government projections.
Minister Brendan Howlin, commenting earlier said that:
It’s important that the government is allowed to value each individual person, aside from their market value in the workplace. The last thing we need is people getting grandiose ideas about how much their life is worth. If they start developing dreams and ambitions, they’ll eventually want to be paid more – something that could drive our expenditure to unsustainable levels.
Business
Legislation is also in the framework to make it legal for the government to value the cost of private sector workers and the self employed too. In an effort to help small businesses reduce costs and return to profitability, the government will determine how much the average worker is to be paid over the course of their entire life.
This new economic steps, which have gone on to infuriate many, has prompted David McWilliams to write another book about how screwed you are and how the government are bleeding you of money. His new book will be available at all good book shops for €17.99.
