19 year old Killian Fogarty, a student in NUI Maynooth, has today claimed that he and numerous other students are victims of irresponsible landlords, after revealing that his self filling fridge is still broken.
The student claims that a number of his household appliances are not in working order and claims that his landlord is taking advantage of vulnerable students.
Commenting about his broken self filling fridge he commented:
The fridge has been broken for several months now and my landlord still hasn’t done a thing. I mean, the fridge is empty and that’s just not how they work. When I was living at home, whenever the fridge was empty, you’d just close the door and wait a few hours, or maybe a day at most and then boom, the fridge has been automatically refilled again. This one still hasn’t done that once and it’s getting ridiculous at this stage.
Killian went on to comment that initially he thought it might have been something to do with the wireless connection or the router, but after turning it on and off several times and even doing an “ipconfig/flushdns” command prompt, nothing has changed.
Killian commented that this is placing even more financial pressure on him and his house-mates at a time they really can’t afford it.
Killian also spoke about other problems he and his house mates are experiencing:
It’s not just the fridge either, the washing machine and hotpress are bust too. As you know, all you have to do nowadays is leave your dirty clothes out on the floor outside your door, they then get wirelessly sent to the washing machine and then reappear back in the hotpress, folded and ironed. The process only takes a day or two, but the system in this house is screwed and has never worked. It’s getting really annoying and I just feel we are being taken advantage of.
Killian is hoping that his landlord will see sense and fix the problem, but is urging students around the country, who are experiencing similar problems to speak out and report the problem to the relevant authorities. He hopes that through increased awareness of the problem, that landlords will be forced to install proper, working household appliances so students will not have to deal with such issues.
