31 year old Patrick O’Mahony today found himself refusing to purchase his usual pre-match bottle of Lucozade, after being bombarded with annoying ads on YouTube.
The drinks company is running an online campaign that is showing how much fitter black people are in comparison to white. Before most YouTube videos play, the advert comes on and shows the pasty white guys passing out, while the sexy black men continue on.
Patrick has become so annoyed and angered by the repetitiveness of the ads, that he found himself angered at the sight of the bottle in the shop and instead opted for a different brand.
Commenting earlier, Patrick said:
I literally must have seen the ad more than 500 times at this stage. It’s just so bloody annoying. All I want to do is watch funny cat videos and conspiracy theory videos that talk about how the Twin Towers were brought down by excessive fluoride in the water. But I can’t do that without having to sit through a sweaty, soft-core interracial advert about the drink.
Patrick, who is a typical Lucozade consumer, usually purchased the drink before his Sunday league match. As with most men who play the amateur game on the weekend, they usually purchase the drink because they think it will make an impact on their performance. But, as Luzosade have pointed out before, the substantial improvements are only made when you are a top athlete and incredibly fit.
Drinking it pre match, while being overweight and a heavy smoker, will do very little to boost performance in any significant way.
Many men around the country have found themselves turning away from the drink, due to the sheer levels of frustration they now associate with it and because the majority of white men in Ireland who play football on the weekend, find the ad a little racist.
