19 year old Anto McCrossan was today continuing his celebrations after hearing the news of Margaret Thatcher’s death.
The Tallaght man spent most of his day yesterday celebrating in the streets in his Manchester United jersey, Adidas tracksuit and Nike runners, chanting Up The Ra and Tíocfaidh Ar Lá – in an apparent display of solidarity with working class people around the world and protesting against the privatising nature of Thatcher’s policies.
When we asked him why he was so happy about the news he said:
“She’s only a bleedin dope, dya know like? She hated the Ra and working class people like meself like. I’m unemployed like and it’s her fault n all. And she, like, probably made Man Utd lose nd all last night like.”
Anto, who is currently unemployed after being let go for stealing from his last employer, is thinking about marking the occasion with another tattoo. He already has the Man Utd crest above his heart, a fighting leprechaun on his upper back and Eire 33 imprinted on the underside of his arm.
Anto commented that this is the happiest he has been in his entire life and that he now feels his personal struggle is over. Anto apparently spent years of suffering under her rule, even though she was not in power when he was born.
We asked him if it was her stance against the unions in the UK, or her support of General Pinochet or her dealings with the Irish hunger strikers that he felt most angered about. Anto replied:
“Unions, like gay unions? Was she a rug muncher too? I’m not bleedin surprised.”
Anto was not available to comment further as he was preparing his material for tonight’s Adrian Kennedy Phone Show on FM104, but is expected to make his uneducated and ill-informed comments available through numerous social media platforms throughout the rest of the day and into the night.
