End of the month figures have given Independent.ie staff reason to celebrate. The website has been crowned Ireland’s largest ad hosting site, beating off stiff competition from Adverts.ie.
Recently the company changed it’s entire business model to try and adjust with changing consumer patterns and to compete with other online news resources that provide information for free.
The company that used to provide daily news stories has opted instead to just smash people in the face with large ads and make it very difficult to find any news stories at all.
Phasing
Sources inside the company say that this is just a phasing out period and hopefully by the end of the year, all stories and articles will be completely removed to make way for even more ads.
Removing the content that users actually want and replacing it with ads is a risky move, but one that will allow the site to generate more revenue from more ad placements.
It will also mean that the company will be able to reduce it’s staffing costs as there will no longer be a need for researchers or journalists.
Independent.ie brought in almost 3 million unique users this month and almost 40 million page impressions and once they replace the content with more online adverts, the company’s revenue is set to sky rocket.
