Yesterday whilst having coffee with her long-suffering friend Jacinta, Dublin woman Sheila McGinnity (26) confessed her fears that US President Barack Obama could at any moment reveal that she has been Googling her old college boyfriend regularly for the past five years.
McGinnity, whose relationship with Eric Doherty finished two weeks after they both graduated from UCD, has at least once a week Googled his name.
“Normally it’s late at night when I’m alone with a bottle of wine and a packet of jammy dodgers. Who doesn’t like a bit of nostalgia every now and then? Or every week. Who does like a bit of nostalgia every week? Answer me that.”
But when Ms. McGinnity recently watched a news bulletin for the first time in months she was shocked at the revelations of former CIA worker Edward Snowden.
“I saw a thing on about how they use some Prism and are able to go on your computer and look at everything you’re doing on the internet. That means they know how often I check for updates on Eric. What if Obama decides to tell everyone about it? I’d be mortified!”
Despite her friend Jacinta’s reassurance that President Obama couldn’t care less who she Googles Sheila remains unsure.
“I think I better change my Gmail password just in case and I’m turning off the router when I go to bed at night from now on. Let’s see them try get into my laptop then!”
