The Giraffe Childcare Centres around the country are set to finally close, after another incident at the Stepaside centre caused more controversy for the creche.
Two toddlers escaped the Stepaside centre today and were found wandering around on their own before being returned. The centre issued a statement blaming someone else for the incident and refused to take responsibility for the ultimate safety of their children.
But, it appears on refection of the incident and on the back of outrage caused by a recent Prime Time investigation, management released this statement:
The management would like to inform parents and the general public that the Giraffe Childcare centres are to close, with immediate effect. The decision comes after careful reflection on our practices, clearly showed that we don’t have a fucking clue how to look after young children in any way, shape or form.
In the interest of child safety – something we only learned about recently – it became glaringly obvious that the best thing we could do for children in Ireland was to stop operating completely. We’d like to thank all the parents for their support over the years, but honesty, your children would be better off and happier locked in the boot of your car while you work, rather than stay in any of our centres.
The Giraffe Children Centres closing will help to ensure the health and safety of hundreds of children around the county and will bring Ireland in line with international standards for the rights of children.
