If you’ve ever made a New Year’s Resolution then keep reading. This story will warm your heart!
New Year’s Day 2013. Former NCAD student Colin McCarthy embarks on a truly original art project. Having suffered a disappointing 2012 (when the amount of women he slept with dropped below double figures) Colin was struggling to express himself and find out what really made him tick. But what happened next will truly amaze you!
Colin (after reading about countless other identical projects online) resolved to take a photograph of himself in the same location every single day for the whole year.
“It was a big commitment alright but I really felt that such a long term and ground-breaking piece of art could only make me stand out as a remarkably dedicated and important player in the exciting world of recent art college drop-outs.”
What Colin didn’t realise was just how deeply this project would touch him and those around him (as well as justifying his complete refusal to go get a job and get out of his parents house).
New Year’s Day 2014
Assembling the 212 photographs that he actually managed to take throughout the year, Colin made a moving and stunning discovery.
If you’ve ever had an emotion, or a heart, or a lump in your throat during a sad bit of a movie, or braved a slight rain shower to get a coffee for someone you kinda fancied then this revelation may move you to tears.
“Looking back over the photos I realised that I am really, really good-looking. Like, proper handsome. It’s no wonder I barely have to try and girls are willing to go home with me.”
With the world in chaos, the weather hammering the country and many people struggling to make ends meet it’s comforting to know that one young man in Dublin is aesthetically well above average, isn’t it?
“Instead of making a resolution this year I think I’m going to concentrate on coasting on my looks. I’m very, very good-looking. Just as well really cause I’m an absolute arsehole.”
