In a move to cripple console arch-rivals Microsoft, Sony have launched a pre-emptive strike in the next next-generation console war with the announcement that the Playstation 5 will go on sale this Christmas.
The announcement follows days of speculation after keen-eyed webwatchers noticed Sony had registered the online domain names Playstation5.com, PS5.com, and Play5tation.com.
By focusing more on flashier graphics instead of any real gameplay innovation, both current generation consoles are not only failing to win over new customers, but are alienating their core audience by dishing up more of the same-old products.
In a press release, Sony say they are confident the PS5 will offer something to win back the hearts of jaded gamers and unimpressed public alike.
“The PS5 is going to blow you away”, said Sony spokesman Tak Fujimoto. “A beating heart of 16 CPU cores running at 6.4GHz frequency through a 1024bit System memory bus with 128MB of eSRAM embedded memory, offering unparalleled polygon manipulation and quad-linear texturing. It’s everything people have ever wanted in a home entertainment console gaming platform”.
Fujimoto went on to reveal how this extra processing power would end the current sales stalemate caused by consumers unable to choose between two practically identical consoles.
“With this extra horsepower, the Playstation 5 will deliver a gaming experience that will make the PS4 look like the PS3″, beamed Fujimoto. “The sheer graphical quality will offer unrivalled immersion into the game, with photo-realistic characters and locations. This innovation will be apparent in our launch titles, including FIFA 15, Call Of Duty; WarPigs, Gran Turismo 7, The Getaway 3; Good Friday, Wipeout 3162, and Tekken 7″
“On top of all that, the PS5 has a CPU with the intelligence to ‘learn’ the patterns of the player, and imitate them when they aren’t playing. So if you’re playing Killzone 5 and your phone rings, you don’t have to pause; the game will have learned your style of play and will continue to control your avatar”
“Simply press the dedicated ‘Freewheel’ button on the DualShock5 controller and your game will play itself, freeing you up to surf the internet using the consoles lightning fast browser, watch a Blu-Ray movie, or purchase downloadable content for your games using the PS5 Store. The game will continue as if you were controlling it, without having you wasting your time. It’s everything you hoped for from the day you first picked up a game controller”.
The PS5 hits stores on November 28th, at a price of €744.
