The prank almost got out of hand, as while the student was engaging in fake promotion for his campaign, hundreds came out to protest against him and gardaí were called to ensure that the situation didn’t turn violent.
The position of equality officer is there to provide an objective representation for all students on campus, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation.
Enoch Burke, being a strong advocate of the Christian faith and member of the Christian Union in NUIG, could never fulfil the position effectively, as any sane individual would be able to determine.
His moral obligations demand that he hate homosexuals (Leviticus 18:22) and that he places women as second class citizens, banned from ever speaking in public ( 1 Corinthians 14:34).
It was unfathomable that he would ever be able to equally represent the student body in Galway, as unfortunately a large part of them are female and many are part of the LGBT community also.
But that didn’t prevent Enoch’s sense of humour coming out during the week as he decided to hilariously run for the position of equality officer and ruffle a few feathers along the way.
Speaking exclusively to The Potato, Enoch said:
“It was a hilarious prank. I just thought it would be gas, that someone with such warped Christian views on life should put themselves forward to represent an entire student body. Gas!”
Enoch went on to preach passages from the Bible and reminded us that we’re all going to hell, especially “them gays”.
NUI Galway are reminded that the entire “Christian As Equality Officer” campaign was nothing more than a joke, that almost got out of hand.
