After spending only a few short hours in prison, Mick Wallace Released has been released, on the condition that he builds an Italian quarter at the back of Limerick Prison for the guards there.
Wallace was arrested for not paying a €2,000 fine after breaking airport regulations and staging a protest with his then on/off girlfriend Clare Daly.
3 overpriced coffee shops, a wine bar and an art gallery will all be built using money Wallace will raise and more than likely not pay back.
Wallace will avoid the prison sentence and pocket himself a handy lump sum on completion too, because he won’t pay any of the VAT he will owe, because he’s just doesn’t really like doing that.
Speaking about the introduction of the Italian Quarter, governor of the prison, Mark Kennedy said:
It’ll be nice to have some of that fancy stuff like the lads have up in Dublin. I’ve always wanted to try a latte, so that would be nice.
The project is expected to not be completed and should wind up in NAMA in about 18 months time.
