Prominent Irish Snapchatter Seamus Keenan has today explained how he uses the social media platform in a desperate attempt to replace the love and attention he didn’t receive as a child.
Keenan’s popularity has grown over the recent years, with regular updates of pictures of himself on nights out with fashion bloggers, the openings of envelopes and trying out the latest beauty product to treat his gonorrhea.
Commenting about his success on Snapchat he said:
“I love Snapchat because it’s all about me, you know? Everyone else is irrelevant. They can literally all go fuck themselves. I get to place myself at the centre of everyone else’s lives. I do it because I think I’m dead inside, I mean an emotionally stable person wouldn’t need the constant attention from people they’ve never met, right?”
Keenan continued, saying that he’s hoping his new found fame and glory on Snapchat will have positive impacts on his family:
“Maybe one day after I do a hilarious video trying to give my dying grandmother a heart attack so I get my inheritance sooner, my estranged dad might see me and send me a pic with, ‘Hey son, I love you, I’m sorry for leaving you, maybe we could get back in touch.’ That would be nice.”
Keenan developed most of his insecurities when his father abandoned him and his mother at the age of 3. Keenan was then left with an alcoholic, drug addicted lone parent who was unable to provide the emotionally support he needed.
The devastating trauma has now manifested itself into a Snapchat addiction. Every post is an exhausted plea to fill the loveless void deep inside his psyche.
It isn’t all bad though, as he has turned the platform he’s amassed into a second income. He’s partnered with various large brands to promote mutually beneficial products:
“It’s nice to get paid to sell people shit – it kinda replaces the money I never got off my dad for things like my confirmation and my birthday. At least these large companies care. Well, more than my dad did.”
If you’ve been affected by any of the abandonment issues brought up in this piece, set up a Snapchat account.
